Senior Director Special Projects

The Senior Director, Special Projects shall be responsible to the Vice President/General Manager for the overall administration of special projects. He/she shall serve as a member of the Management Team, and is primarily responsible for managing the execution of special projects for success. Special projects are projects deemed by the Vice President/General Manager to have significant transformational impact to the operations of the Company, its systems, and the welfare of employees. It usually will carry a reasonable capital budget and requires rigorous planning and execution for success.

     

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Articulate, champion, and fiercely support the Company values and objectives when interacting with Company employees, customers, vendors, and other Company stakeholders.
  2. Lead all aspects of special projects including planning, pre-construction, design, permitting, competitive bidding, team selection, construction, commissioning, and project closeout. This includes the following tasks:
  • Work in conjunction with Director of Facilities, Tooling, and Ground Support Equipment (DFTGSE) to ensure all elements of construction projects align with the Company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Partner with customer and the Company teams to standardize vendor construction delivery across the Company that minimizes impact/drag on Company resources.
  • Partner with DFTGSE to produce monthly project forecasts including variance analyses as well as execution of Service Agreements and project authorizations for new and existing contractors and vendors.
  • Ensure project team and vendors complies with any project turnover documentation requirements as needed.
  • Create and oversee project budgets and establish monthly forecasts including variances, including:
  • Work with internal stakeholders and internal customers to create scope, schedule and budgets for special projects to ensure the receipt of yearly project budget approval.
  • Act as thought leader and drive coordination and integration of internal stakeholders within special projects. This includes:
  • Identify and define strategic direction for prospective special projects for the consideration and approval of Vice President/General Manager.
  • Perform benchmark exercises to determine best practices and opportunities for special projects.
  • Partner with Senior Director Engineering, Logistics and Technical Services and other senior leaders for “deep dives” across our operations to identify ways to improve the customer experience and leading initiatives to follow through on recommendations for special projects.
  • (j) Perform any other functions that may be required or sanctioned by Vice President/General Manager
  • or other Company Executive leadership.

     

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Good working knowledge or the ability to acquire skills in the following:  The ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, by presenting ideas and giving instructions/guidance to subordinates, co-workers, supervisors and outside agencies in a manner that instructions can be carried out and requested information is obtained; ability to motivate and lead a staff or team of subordinates to obtain goals, higher productivity and quality work; the ability to delegate and prioritized work effectively; creative; persuasive; basic understanding of finance, accounting, marketing and quality assurance; excellent negotiating and bargaining skills; good presentation skills to represent the company with customers and the business community environment; strong technical knowledge of aircraft maintenance.

   

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

SUPERVISION

The incumbent performs the duty assignment at his or her discretion and is limited only by policies set by administrative or legislative authority.  Total end results determine the effectiveness of job performance.

      

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS

A strong level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship among employees, various departments, management, and the public and customer representatives.

    

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Essential responsibilities are performed in a climate controlled office but not limited to the office.  Must be able to cope with stress and mental exhaustion due to the pressures of accomplishing set goals; meeting short deadlines; maintain numerous projects simultaneously; employee confrontations and long work hours.

   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

BS degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field. A&P license preferred.

     

EXPERIENCE

10 years commercial aircraft maintenance and repair plus 5 years executive management experience.
